Awaroa Glamping is a family business started in 2015 by the Crawford family.
Four generations of Crawfords have lived at Awaroa, continuing the pioneering spirit that remains from the earliest settlers in the area.
Mike and Birgit Crawford manage the business along with their sons Julian and Alex, as well as Alex's daughter Awhi.
Mike's Parents Jim and Joyce Crawford bought a large section of land at Awaroa in the 1960s and subdivided it among their four children.
One section was sold to the National Park, while another section became the Awaroa Lodge, founded by Mike's sister Jo in the 1990s.
Mike also works for Project Janszoon growing native plants at a small nursery at Awaroa.
